I would not recommend Diane if you are looking for a therapist to work through a sexually assault. After I was brave and vulnerable enough to open up about the details of my assault to her, she did not believe me and victim blamed. She told me that she has heard “worse” stories and proceeded to tell me stories of other clients of hers who have been sexually assaulted that fit her limited scope and understanding of sexual violence. This was unprofessional and incredibly validating. There is no “worse” assault, sexual violence exists on a spectrum. When I brought up this point, she scoffed. She continued to defend the man who I told her violently attacked me and said something along the lines of “don’t you think you were giving him the impression that you wanted to do more”. Just straight victim blaming and this just shows that she does not know how consent. “Giving an impression” is not consent. I told her about how I had seen previous therapists who believed and supported me, and she looked at me like I was crazy. I left shaking and crying. I’m glad that I am very far along on my healing journey at this point. I can’t imagine the damage she could have inflicted on me had this been earlier on in my healing process. Her manner in speaking to clients is unprofessional and invalidating. Avoid, especially if you want to work on healing from sexual trauma. She does not believe or support survivor.
