There have been two amazing surgeons in my lifetime of more than 10 surgeries. Dr. Jennifer Ogilvie is one of them. She is not the cold, distant surgeon who is just focusing on using her skill and lives to operate before making a referral and moving on to the next surgery. She is a warm, patient, compassionate, empathetic human-being combined with exceptional surgical skill. From the first appointment with her RN Scheduling Coordinator you enter into an environment that is extremely supportive. Dr. Ogilvie creates a safety net that surrounds you, along with checks and balances. You are literally encased in an extremely supportive environment with no gatekeepers. Dr. Ogilvie and her team are available beyond 9 AM - 5 PM prior to and after.
While this might be too much information, it might assist you, the reviewer, in understanding my condition: A significant mass growing downward from my thyroid, which was dangerously close to my vocal cord and aorta and carotid arteries, my esophagus and larynx were no longer aligned, and the mass is pushing toward my back. Also, smaller ones were covering an absolutely healthy thyroid. Yes, I had almost yearly ultrasounds, a biopsy, thyroid blood tests, and for several years there was no change. However, diagnostic tests were not performed below the neck where this mass was growing. In case I needed a thoracic surgeon, an excellent one was identified and met with prior to surgery. This meeting increased my level of comfort, along with having the ability to answer thoracic related questions and potential issues prior to surgery.
To address my extremely emotional condition, Dr. Ogilvie took the time to have another lengthy conversation with me prior to surgery. During that conversation, there were areas of concern that I had regarding potential complications. She addressed each one and had a treatment plan, if any complications should arise. After surgery, my conversation with her strengthened my confidence in the fact that I selected the perfect surgeon. Her team, from the RN to the APRN and chief resident were also exceptional, empathetic, and skilled. Each one took time with me separately and together as a team. Usually at the post surgery phase you are in limbo until your post-op appointment.
In Dr. Ogilvie practice, everyone keeps you up to date on the treatment plan while in the hospital and you receive telephone calls from the original RN Scheduling Coordinator in the hospital and after discharge. No question is insignificant and availability was never a problem. The mission of the entire team is to take care of their patient from the initial appointment through post surgery. You could not be in better hands!
Final result... My breathing is no longer impaired. I can breathe again without thyroid or calcium supplements!
